There are four mahogany species in Latin America of the genus Swietenia, including Caribbean mahogany (Swietenia mahogani), Honduran mahogany (Swietenia humilis), bigleaf mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) and Venezuelan mahogany (Swietenia candollei). Bigleaf mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) is often regarded by experts as true mahogany.
